How hard could it be to parse RSS?

As I sat remembering a service from years ago called Lookwork — an RSS reader, but just for images — that insidious thought stuck in my brain. I spent the early days of my career using it to follow design blogs for inspiration. In recent years I've found myself missing that daily dose of oh that's cool every morning. I decided I'd spend a weekend seeing if I could bring that back into my life in some way.

It turns out, RSS was easy. The hard part? Everything else. What followed was a brief 20 month detour as I learned all the technologies required to make LightWatch a spiritual successor modern upgrade to Lookwork.

I'm Cameron McEfee, a former creative director and illustrator turned indie software developer. I built LightWatch so I could keep up with the creative things I love and avoid working on the things I really should be working on.
